[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_02]: What am I doing different than those girls in the top five and then some girls like work themselves to death trying to get ranked a

[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_02]: certain number and it starts to become like

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Your whole your whole life or like

[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_02]: You base yourself worth on

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_02]: What you're ranked?

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Today's episode we're getting into ranking. There was a media outlet and they're still out there flow softball

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Was ranking 12 14 16 18s at the time

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_04]: We were second year 12s

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Pretty good team coming off a decent first year 12. We did good in pgf and so we were

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Looking for the rankings for some reason it was important all of us

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_04]: So we get into the rankings by flow softball

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_04]: The girls get individually ranked and then the team gets ranked and so Lacie and I get into

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Like the importance of it at the time

[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_04]: So my question is to you

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_04]: What were you ranked if you if your team was ranked at all?

[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_04]: You know

[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Your daughter

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_04]: with what were they ranked but

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so what were you ranked and

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Wasn't important to you at the time or did you not care?

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_04]: We get into that a little bit and we talk about again

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_04]: The pressure is on to win a national championship at this point

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_04]: The pressure was on and 10 you by Chris to win a national championship

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_04]: We were one game away from winning that asa national championship. We are now second year 12s

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Looking to win a pgf national championship was in our opinion at the time was

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_04]: more important and

[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_04]: And we dedicated our whole season. We were

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Invited to pgf we didn't have to qualify this time so

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_04]: The preparation was the key to win this national championship. So enjoy the show and I'll

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_02]: It was the first day of double days double days. So we do double days for like two weeks straight and then

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_02]: For another two weeks, we just have kind of regular practice like how we like

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_02]: How we are in school like the type of schedule we are in school

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: so

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Today showed up at the field at 830 and I didn't leave until three

[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Awesome, and you didn't have any school or did you know school yet school starts on the 25th? That's right. That's right. Okay

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, how did you get back from our home?

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_04]: To your apartment. How did you get back?

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_04]: And you explained to everyone

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_04]: How you got back

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_02]: so

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_02]: We got back from utah

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: and I was just

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I was angsty. I think

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_02]: To get my truck back because I wanted to leave the next day

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_02]: So

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I've been driving this truck since

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Junior year since I got my license

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_02]: right, so

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just begging my parents. Can we go please pick up my truck?

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_02]: It's in the shop that's been in the shop like we need to go pick it up

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I need to pack the car up and then I need to go

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_04]: We got to put shop and air quotes if you're listening. I'm putting their clothes. Yeah

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_02]: The shop is in air quotes, but I didn't know that

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_02]: And

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Turns out they sold it

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_02]: They we did they just sold it and I didn't know and

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_02]: um, and then

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_02]: My dad told me to get ready to go to get my car from the shop with my mom

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_02]: And my mom just comes walking in and apparently the the shop clothes like

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Closes in about 10 minutes. So I'm like

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Can we

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Get a truck and usually

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_02]: If like if we have somewhere to be my mom is gonna be

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Like the first person to be hustling in and saying let's go get out

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_02]: But she kind of just walked in nonchalantly and I was like

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_02]: She knows I have to go get my truck. Why does she I do like this?

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_02]: All right, um

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_04]: And then long story. Yeah

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_04]: You have a new car. Yes

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_04]: You have a new car

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_04]: It was the same car that we took up to the mountains and you had no idea. No, I didn't I had no idea

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I was just sitting in the back minding my mind of my own

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_04]: minding your business

[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, all right. Well awesome

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_02]: And it has the little things that people take for granted like

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_02]: bluetooth

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Or a trunk or a back seat

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Right, and I think those are all great qualities now

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_04]: All good stuff. Uh, all right, we are

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_04]: This is where

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, and for everyone that we just got down with 12 you first years

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_04]: We we did fairly well. We made it to pgf which is an honor to do because you have to qualify and we qualified to get in

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, we did fairly well. I think we went two and two

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_04]: We went two games lost two games

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Which is good for a first year 12, right? We were playing these girls that are

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_04]: older and second year 12s

[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_04]: um now we're moving on to second year 12s and

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, I don't know if everyone knows what who what flow softball is

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_04]: flow softball at the time was a

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know news

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_04]: organization

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_04]: what did you say lice?

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_02]: like a

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_02]: softball blog

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_02]: softball blog with a lot of news important articles and right all that stuff

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so flow softball at the time was was pretty big

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_04]: And what they came out with I think it was just for 12 you right? It wasn't for 10 so 12 you

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_04]: ranking that they started ranking girls

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_04]: individually

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_04]: And then they started ranking teams, right?

[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, and so we were all kind of like um, not all I think the parents most mostly

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't like the girls really cared maybe individually you guys cared

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, what you guys are gonna be ranking there nationally, but

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I think when it was like brought up at practice

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Like oh the rankings are out

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_02]: like I think

[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I think he I think it was made a point that they

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_02]: It meant something

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_02]: and

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_02]: If we weren't number one then we'd have to keep working hard just be ranked number one

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Right and then yeah, and we we had a feeling we were gonna be in the top

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_04]: We didn't know where we had a feeling we're gonna be top five at least

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_04]: Because you know we keep track of everybody

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Right. Yeah

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_04]: So

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so these rankings are coming out soon, right? So, you know, we start just you know first year 12s

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_04]: We have everybody back

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Including I don't know if you remember

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh a girl that would fly in. I don't know if you remember

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I do fly in from colorado

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Every weekend so get this straight everybody everyone who's listening. This is how this is the bat buster organization. It could be

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_04]: Athletics marcado. I know there's there's girls that have travels from other states to play for marcado for the angels

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, this is 12 you and she's traveling. She's flying in every weekend

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_04]: To practice and play in our games, right? So she was an additional pitcher

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_04]: We had two other pitchers that were good. So this added another a fourth

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Pitcher to our team. She was also a pretty good hitter

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_04]: But she's flying

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_04]: And I think

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's even more common now

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Like yeah, it's I'm more than half the team is commuting or flying

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Right different states to be on one team

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, and you know why and we can get into more during recruiting but

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_04]: um

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_04]: There's certain or there's certain schools

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_04]: nationwide

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_04]: Power five typically they have

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_04]: their travel ball teams that they typically

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_04]: recruit girls from because they trust that organization. They know

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_04]: How well it's ran. They know that these girls are top notch, right? So

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, I maybe they believed it, you know the bat buster organization

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_04]: They're like, okay

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, we're gonna join the bat buster organization because these power five teams are gonna be looking

[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_04]: At her in the future we're not at 12 you they're not gonna look out

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_04]: They typically are not going to start recruiting at 12 you but

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_04]: But rankies start coming out

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, I don't remember

[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Your individual rankings do you remember your individual ranking?

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Not in 12 you

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_04]: But I remember your father and the reason why I remember all these

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Is that would did that did not sound rhetorical so I actually thought you're like confused

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so, um, you know parents get all crazy about this stuff, right? Um, yeah

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_04]: And you know, we we thought it was important

[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_04]: For recruiting down the line, you know, hey my daughter was ranked this

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_04]: And you can put that in your email right flow softball ranked, you know, my daughter lacey him

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Whatever I think you're

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_04]: The you were ranked

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_04]: I want to say 21

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_04]: You were in the you're in the low 20s as far as

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_04]: nationally ranked

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_04]: 11 years old

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Makes no sense make no sense, right?

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_04]: so then

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Team ones come out and this was important to ask is it was more team-based like individually great but team-wise

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_04]: We wanted to be looking

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_04]: looked upon as being the number one team in the nation because of who we are

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Who's coming back how well we did in pgf

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Because some of the other teams that were ranked didn't go to pgf. They just they stayed with asa, right?

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_04]: So we're just like, okay

[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_04]: We should get pretty ranked pretty high because we did we went two and two we qualified

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, so they come out and were ranked drumroll

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_02]: drumroll

[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Third third third in the nation

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Which I think we were happy with right so no we were not happy. You thought you should be number one

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Why no chris wasn't happy chris was not happy right? He thought we should be number one

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_04]: We had no idea who this well actually we played we played

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Because mojo was ahead of us. Yeah mojo was one. Oh, they were one. Yeah

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_04]: I think mojo was one and again

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_04]: This is the same team that we lost to in the national championships attending

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_04]: So it makes sense that we're one three

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_02]: But I remember I remember seeing it be like oh like top three

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_02]: And then I went to practice like the next day and he's like this is unacceptable. Like that's unacceptable. I was like oh

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_02]: reality check

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_02]: but like

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_02]: not okay

[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about rankings

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_02]: How

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_02]: How important are rankings?

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_02]: today

[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Or like even

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_02]: What what impacted those rankings have

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Like now

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_02]: like what like what

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_02]: You know what i'm saying like especially in the game of softball

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyone can beat anyone

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_02]: so like

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_02]: It's oh, yeah, like of course that busters lost to mojo like they're they're ranked third and mojo's ranked first

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_02]: it's like no, it's like

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Softball is a crazy game of I don't know. It's up in the air all the time like people beat

[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Unranked teams all the time and various sports

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And like there's a lot of upsets going on right now and like college basketball

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_02]: and

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_02]: even college football like

[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_02]: All these sports

[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_04]: What at some point it became important um for

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_04]: um the

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_04]: The media

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_04]: To get more viewers so when you put out rankings more people are gonna tune in

[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, right does that make sense? So when you do it like for example basketball, they do it weekly

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_04]: So, you know your favorite team, you know beat another

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_04]: High-ranking team. So you're you're gonna click on that that

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_04]: That article to see where your team is ranked out now, right? So

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_04]: That was part of it

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_04]: You know part of the reason this media is this that flow softball is like

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Hey, we need to get more eyes on our website. So let's create this ranking system

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_02]: They have no idea

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_02]: What you're doing behind the scenes

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Or how how much work you're putting in how much practice you're putting in

[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_02]: It could it could vary from player to player

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_02]: And then you see these girls ranked

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Higher than you and you're like I practiced every single day for like three hours every single day

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm ranked 50

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_02]: But mind you you're 11 years old you're 11 years old right?

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_04]: So, no. Yeah, so so rankies come out right so we're ranked third

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_04]: um

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_04]: How do you think other

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Local teams felt about us being three

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_02]: They hated it

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_02]: They hated us already and then they see us number two. Do you remember?

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't to be honest. Yeah

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, maybe

[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe a texas team. Maybe i'm not sure but

[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, um

[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so it just it was

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_04]: It's comical now right like we look back like well, but for us it was important because we

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_04]: We needed because of how we presented ourselves to everybody else

[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_04]: We had this kind of cockiness to us that

[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_04]: We're gonna destroy you every time we play you which is good

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're gonna shove it down his throat remember ronda rousey like he probably run it because ronda rousey was beat at the time

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Right, so it was you know, we had that ronda rousey

[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_02]: they butt heads

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_04]: And well the learning experience for you, right? So I I wouldn't say it didn't work out it worked out in a sense that

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Like we sat down and we talked about it. We worked through our issues like you know, what are you what's going on with you?

[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_04]: It just yeah at the time when it was assigned

[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_02]: It did not work out. But yeah, and I mean I don't remember what this specific argument was about but

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_02]: there's just a whole thing that happened with my team and

[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_02]: like people started picking sides and started

[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Texting behind each other's back like why'd she say that blah blah blah. It's like girl drama

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Of like middle school girls, but

[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Once you start figuring out your leadership style and

[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_02]: perspective of leader like leading a team is

[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and you kind of have to find the

[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_02]: similarities so you use those similarities to

[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_02]: implement with your team

[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_04]: So compromise right yeah compromise you might have an idea

[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_04]: The other person might have an idea of how to lead

[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Your your conviction on and then there's a there's a conflict, right? Yeah, the good news is that

[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Right lead a team to a national championship

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but again, you know you're 11 years old. Do you really have

[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_04]: The capability of being a leader at this point you like you don't have really you had experience because you

[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, maybe that was here's his stop process was that you guys were playing together

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_04]: for a while and it's only natural that you guys are

[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Gonna lead this team to the national championship

[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean at that age

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I think everyone has their idea in their head of what a leader looks like

[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But then you try and act on it and you have no idea what you're doing

[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_02]: It with being on a team for so long like once you get to high school and

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Becoming up a classman. That's when you kind of take the reins a little bit, right?

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_02]: But it all depends on what your leadership style is

[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean some people are really quiet and really do not talk like very well, but they show it in their work ethic and

[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_02]: How much effort they put on the field?

[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_02]: It can be shown in different ways so

[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Kind of just have to
