[00:00:00] I would say that first year 14, it wasn't bad because I feel like the team that I was on, like our—because Mark had the older team and the younger team, which was us, it was like a battle. Like, how good can we get? Or we don't want to be looked down upon because we are younger. We just want to be like the team that we are.
[00:00:22] So that's like how we were in Colorado when we went all the way to that, I think the semifinal game at the Colorado tournament. We played Corona Angels Tyson and—
[00:00:33] Choppers and the SoCal Choppers.
[00:00:35] Yeah, and there was like—it was like a really heated game between us and Corona Angels.

[00:02:58] Or your room is being destroyed because there's mold in your room and you're relocated to your living room.
[00:03:05] I am currently living in my living room.
[00:03:07] Yes.
[00:03:08] Yeah.
[00:03:09] So, your senior year, which you're good, I'm glad we caught it, right?
[00:03:13] Because if you didn't catch it, who knows?
[00:03:15] You could have been...
[00:03:17] Because every time you go back from staying with us, every time you go back, you get sick, right?
[00:03:21] I do for a couple months.
[00:03:23] Yeah.
[00:03:25] And I will know.
[00:03:26] That's not usually me.
[00:03:28] I feel like whenever I go home, I feel perfectly fine.
[00:03:32] But...
[00:03:32] We had to take...
[00:03:35] Some steps to get things rolling to find out that there was actually mold in there for quite some time.
[00:03:42] And so this is going to be good, not only for you for the rest of the year, but for future tenants, right?
[00:03:47] Yeah.
[00:03:48] We're going to be shaking some future tenants from getting sick, I believe.
[00:03:51] Good stuff.
[00:03:52] So, reflecting back on the year, ladies, I have my favorite.
[00:03:55] We may have talked about the same ones.

[00:04:03] But I think we agreed our favorite episode was if everyone wants to go back to episode nine.

[00:04:14] You're transitioning out of coming off of USA Select Championship and third place in PGF.
[00:04:23] One game away from going to the finals.
[00:04:26] Now we're transitioning to Mark Campbell's 14U team.
[00:04:30] So, describe that episode or how you felt during that time.
[00:04:37] Because that was a big point in your life, right?
[00:04:39] Yeah.
[00:04:40] Us talking about it.
[00:04:41] Us reflecting on like how much of an impact Mark had on me as a player and how he was there for me during my head injury.
[00:04:50] Reflecting on the exact moment when Mark called you when we were camping.
[00:04:55] In our family getaway during our two week break out of the whole year for Travel Bowl.
[00:05:01] Telling you that he wants me on the team and how it's hard when we had to be separated from certain girls that we were super close with.
[00:05:12] And that did not go onto Mark's team right away.
[00:05:16] Which was hard and that was my first glimpse into moving up through the ranks like of Travel Ball and possibly losing some teammates, gaining some teammates.
[00:05:27] And then going and starting to practice at Pacifica every single weekend, which is, I wouldn't say it's a culture shock because we would go to Pacifica sometimes to go practice.
[00:05:40] But every single weekend, STC four times, three, four times a week.
[00:05:47] It reflects how the start of sacrifices started to happen with not just me, but like you guys too.
[00:05:57] Yeah.
[00:05:57] And that, and I'm glad you brought that up because I did a replay of episode five, which we talked about.
[00:06:03] You used to, we talked about sacrificing your friends.
[00:06:07] Hey, are you wanting to go to the movies?
[00:06:09] No, I have practice.
[00:06:10] Hey, do you want to go here?
[00:06:12] No, I have this tournament that's going to be Saturday and Sunday.
[00:06:15] So there were definitely, there was definitely sacrifices, especially for that team.
[00:06:21] I don't know if you were going to say something else, Claire.
[00:06:23] Oh, I was going to say that it ultimately ended up when, with me saying no so much that they would stop inviting me.
[00:06:29] Yeah.
[00:06:30] In which, which honestly, for all the young girls to do this, that probably hurts more than you getting invited and you having to say no.
[00:06:41] Cause you being invited, they were like, they were thinking about you.
[00:06:45] They're like, oh, we want Lacey to come.
[00:06:47] But then it all, it ended up, it ended up being like, you know what? Lacey probably has softball.
[00:06:53] We're just not going to tell her.
[00:06:55] Yeah.
[00:06:56] The highlight.
[00:06:57] Girl.
[00:06:57] Yeah. And you're 13 years old and you know, you want to get invited.
[00:07:03] You want people to like you, you want to, you know, and then all of a sudden you're not being invited to these things.
[00:07:08] Back in your mind, you're probably like, they probably think I'm at, but also the back of your mind, you're like, maybe they hate me.
[00:07:14] Maybe they don't like me anymore.
[00:07:15] Right? So yeah.
[00:07:16] You got a lot of emotion, right?
[00:07:18] 13 years old is a pivotal time, especially in a female's life.
[00:07:22] Right? You got a lot of going on physically, mentally, socially, school-wide.
[00:07:27] There's just a lot of things that hurt going through your head.
[00:07:30] So you're battling with those things.
[00:07:32] My, my impression is you, yes, you were, you had, cause we thought we were going to be on this team.
[00:07:41] This cause we, four seasons, right?
[00:07:43] First year 10s, second year 10s, first year 12s, second year 12s.
[00:07:47] We've played for championships.
[00:07:48] We were, you know, ranked really high every single year.
[00:07:53] And then all of a sudden the rug gets pulled from you and you're like, and then some of the girls that you thought should have been, that kind of came, should have come with you.
[00:08:02] Didn't.
[00:08:02] And we were like emotional about that.
[00:08:04] But then you're also emotional because now you're on this elite 14 year team with Mark Campbell.
[00:08:10] If you guys don't know who Mark Campbell is, he passed away a few years ago.
[00:08:14] So cancer, I think you were first year 16s.
[00:08:19] I was on.
[00:08:22] Yeah.
[00:08:23] I was on his chasing.
[00:08:25] Yeah.
[00:08:26] So he passed away with cancer, but he was one of the elite 14 years.
[00:08:31] You got to look him up, Google him, but he was sought out 14 year bat busters, the Oklahoma's, the Arizona's, the Oregon's, the high end teams came to him and said, Hey, who are you?
[00:08:45] Who have?
[00:08:46] And he would say, I have this person.
[00:08:48] And then those teams would always come watch you play.
[00:08:50] So in our 12, the 12 of you team, Chris Garcia always said during practices, my job is to get you guys to play for Mark Campbell and Mike Stitt.
[00:09:00] And his practices mirrored Mark Campbell and Mike Stitt, right?
[00:09:04] It was, they were very.
[00:09:06] Grueling.
[00:09:07] They were hard.
[00:09:08] They were not easy.
[00:09:09] And I'm sure that if you're 10 and 11 year old, 12 year old going through these practices, a lot of people quit.
[00:09:17] And then the ones that could handle it stay.
[00:09:19] Yeah.
[00:09:21] So now we get onto this 14 year team with Mark Campbell, which was the ultimate goal.
[00:09:27] You want to play for a guy who's Oklahoma is going to come watch you play.
[00:09:31] Oregon's going to be watching you play.
[00:09:33] That's cool.
[00:09:34] However, there's a lot of pressure.
[00:09:37] I mean, sure.
[00:09:37] She was shocked.
[00:09:38] That, I don't know if you felt the pressure, you're 13 years old.
[00:09:43] Recruiting wasn't too on your list, but you knew that there was going to be some colleges looking at this particular.
[00:09:51] I would say that first year 14, it wasn't bad because I feel like the team that I was on, like our, because Mark had the older team and the younger team, which was us.
[00:10:05] It was like a battle.
[00:10:06] Like how good can we get?
[00:10:08] Or we don't want to be looked down upon because we are younger.
[00:10:11] We just want to be like the team that we are.
[00:10:14] So that's like how we were in Colorado when we went all the way to that, I think the semifinal game at the Colorado tournament, we played Corona angels Tyson and.

[00:10:42] There was pressure on us to be good, but like we weren't the older team.
[00:10:46] Like we just, we wanted to be like them.
[00:10:49] We wanted to be on that team.
[00:10:50] And then I think the next year, second year 14 was in eighth grade.
[00:10:56] And that's when it started hitting a little bit because this was before the rule changed and eighth graders were starting to commit to colleges.
[00:11:05] I was put off.
[00:11:07] I was like caught off guard.
[00:11:09] Oh shoot.
[00:11:10] Maybe I should be committed now.
[00:11:11] I need to be at that point.
[00:11:14] And then.
[00:11:15] Yeah.
[00:11:15] Cause that, that, I don't remember when we went on, we went to Arizona on the elite camp.
[00:11:22] Um, Arizona coach came, watch you pitch.
[00:11:26] I think she resigned a little bit after that.
[00:11:29] Yeah.
[00:11:29] She's at Arizona right now.
[00:11:31] Yeah.
[00:11:31] You're being looked at because now granted you're four teams and you're probably throwing 56, 57, maybe 50.
[00:11:41] Yeah.
[00:11:42] Yeah.
[00:11:43] It's not like you're like a burn burner, right?
[00:11:46] And you're throwing heat, but you did have good spin, but you had colleges, high end colleges looking at you because of the team you run.
[00:11:54] So I don't know, continue on the pressures of being on that team.
[00:11:59] Yeah.
[00:11:59] Our second year, we had a lot of the same girls brought in some new ones.
[00:12:06] Didn't do so well at PGF.
[00:12:08] I don't think.
[00:12:09] Well, that was the year you got hurt in the year round.
[00:12:14] Very true.
[00:12:15] So go back to first year 14.
[00:12:17] I think why I'm, I'm blanking is that I don't, I was home for most of.
[00:12:22] Yeah.
[00:12:23] That's nice.
[00:12:24] Yeah.
[00:12:24] So go back to first year 14, cause that's like where episode nine was.

[00:13:40] And so you get the privilege of playing for Mark and practicing with these.
[00:13:46] These are professional athletes at some point in the future.
[00:13:50] That's a great thing.
[00:13:51] My favorite part was just watching you grow.

[00:13:56] Now you were the number one pitcher on 12U and everyone's chanting their names at these
[00:14:01] games.
[00:14:02] I don't, you don't like the nickname, but they were calling you La Machine.
[00:14:06] La Machine.
[00:14:07] La Machine.
[00:14:08] So you were the number one pitcher.
[00:14:10] You pitched not only in 10 and 12, you were like, you had so many innings.
[00:14:17] Right?
[00:14:18] Yeah.
[00:14:18] Now you get to this team and then you have Liv and you have these other girls where you're
[00:14:22] splitting time now.
[00:14:24] But you're able to look up to these girls that eventually you're going to be in D1 and you're
[00:14:32] going to play against them at some point.
[00:14:34] Right?
[00:14:35] Right.
[00:14:35] You're going to be playing against Liv in a few months here.
[00:14:39] And Lala.

[00:17:49] And I was like, nothing's going right.

[00:18:00] You ran into a pillar in your garage that you've been parking in for four years.

[00:19:29] the season, because this is your last season and you want it to be, you want to be healthy.

[00:19:38] And then you can graduate from college, which is crazy.
[00:19:43] How do you feel?
[00:19:45] How do I feel about you graduating from college?
[00:19:48] I got emotional.
[00:19:48] I told you, I got emotional because I went to grandma's.
[00:19:53] I wrote a poem similar to Catching You, but it's a poem.
[00:19:59] It's a, it's, I don't know how you say it, alliteration or figure of speech.
[00:20:05] Yeah.
[00:20:06] Yeah.
[00:20:06] That's a poem.
[00:20:07] I used to read making poems and it was about a seven course meal, right?
[00:20:12] The breakfast was when you're a baby.
[00:20:15] Snack was when you were elementary school.
[00:20:18] Lunch was when you're junior high.
[00:20:22] Um, I called it Linner in between lunch and dinner was high school, I think, or something
[00:20:30] like that.
[00:20:30] And dinner was something else.
[00:20:31] So the seven course meal was your life.
[00:20:34] Right?
[00:20:34] And then the very end is the dessert, which is where you're at now.
[00:20:38] I'm graduating college, maybe finding somebody.
[00:20:45] Yeah.
[00:20:46] Well, you're, you know, you hopefully you find somebody, you're married, you have kids
[00:20:51] and then, then I had to become a grandfather.
[00:20:54] So is this, it's the second.
[00:20:55] So you're, it's the first part of your life.
[00:20:59] It's a certain page in your life and then you flip it over and college is over.
[00:21:03] Education is over.
[00:21:04] Now it's real life.
[00:21:05] It's actually in the face, right?
[00:21:07] You gotta get a real job.
[00:21:07] You gotta, there's, you're gonna have to eventually start paying for your own stuff.
[00:21:13] Uh, you do now, but eventually it's gonna be a 100% on you.
[00:21:18] And you're gonna have a house.
[00:21:19] You know, it's all these things are gonna start creeping up on you.
[00:21:25] We're gonna be there to support you obviously.
[00:21:27] But that's, that was my vision of dessert.
[00:21:30] It's my dessert.
[00:21:31] It's like, I get to enjoy.
[00:21:33] I had this short seven course dinner, which is you figuratively.
[00:21:37] And then I have this dessert where I can just sit there and enjoy the dessert and enjoy watching you.
[00:21:45] Do your thing.
[00:21:46] I did my thing.
[00:21:48] I did my job.
[00:21:49] Now, now you're on your own.
[00:21:51] Right?
[00:21:53] Sorta.
[00:21:54] Sorta.
[00:21:55] Orinwa.
[00:21:58] I feel like it's been, like, since I got my apartment.
[00:22:03] And I think I started working at my pitching lesson place like a month after.
[00:22:08] That's when a lot of the independence kicked in.
[00:22:11] Because now I'm actually making my own money where I did before when I was working at pizza.
[00:22:19] But that was more just fun money.
[00:22:23] Now, a lot of the, most of my money that I make, I'm paying for paper towels and washing detergent.
[00:22:35] And, okay.
[00:22:37] What else?
[00:22:38] Napkins.
[00:22:39] Uh, just regular stuff that I probably wouldn't buy when I'm like at home.
[00:22:47] Half of you don't need to.
[00:22:48] I don't need to.
[00:22:52] Um, I have a constant reminder.
[00:22:54] I have it written on my whiteboard of all the things that I need to get.
[00:22:57] But I just haven't gone and got it yet.
[00:22:59] But, yeah.
[00:23:00] After I graduate, gotta move home for a little bit.

[00:27:21] Maybe I've mentioned it before, but none of our girls transferred out, which is unheard of now.
[00:27:29] So we basically have our whole roster back, except obviously the seniors that graduated and then five new freshmen.
[00:27:38] And we did probably 10 times better than we did last fall.
[00:27:44] Like going into fall last season, we would lose.
[00:27:47] We wouldn't, we didn't, I don't think we lost any, but we were, there were close games with the Juco's and nothing against the Juco's.
[00:27:54] But just being at San Jose State, we're like, all right, you got to take it up a little bit.
[00:27:59] I think you did lose.
[00:28:00] You lost to Cal last year.
[00:28:03] We did.
[00:28:05] Did we play Cal or to Stanford?
[00:28:08] We lost to Stanford.

[00:28:12] But this fall, we, we won all our games, probably won by at least five plus each game, which is, that's exactly what pitchers want is our offense to be on fire a little bit.
[00:28:27] And having these girls back, especially like my whole bullpen back, basically, we get to work together for another year and we're already meshed together before since the season before.
[00:28:38] So I think it's good for our team cohesion.

[00:28:44] And you got, again, and you got a new coaching staff, your pitching coach, pitching coach is really high on quality innings and then the story.

[00:29:10] It just went right to the, so for a pitcher to have a pitching coach kind of treated the same way where you have quality innings where, you know, no walks, maybe you give up a couple of hits, but, and they, and they didn't score any runs.
[00:29:27] That's going to be a quality inning, right?
[00:29:28] And you're going to know it's not a quality run.
[00:29:30] You had a couple of walks, you get, you give up a couple of rocks.
[00:29:33] And so obviously you probably in your head knew what a quality inning was and what wasn't, but now you guys are focusing on it, which is cool.
