[00:00:00] It felt like something was jabbing into my shoulder every time I went up towards 12 o'clock
[00:00:07] and then down into my whip.
[00:00:09] Yeah.
[00:00:09] But man, and then I remember calling you one time and I'm like, it hurts to breathe.
[00:00:14] Yeah, I remember that.
[00:00:16] I was like, why is it hurt to breathe?
[00:00:18] But I go to my athletic trainer and she's, you need a, it's basically inflammation.
[00:00:23] So I'm taking anti-inflammatories and that barely works.
[00:00:30] So after that first week of anti-inflammatories, I'm like, see if I could pitch again and I do three circles and my eye cannot pitch.
[00:00:39] And so this is about the time where ball ball is starting like literally a year ago today.
[00:00:46] And she's, you have to sit out until that inflammation goes down.
[00:00:50] Hello and welcome to Catching You, a dad and daughter softball journey.
[00:00:54] I'm Rusty, a dad who's been in the dugout and on the sidelines.
[00:00:58] And I'm Lacie, the daughter whose journey through softball has been filled with incredible winds, tough losses, and so many lessons both on and off the field.
[00:01:06] For the past 16 years, we've navigated the highs and lows of softball together from the local fields to national tournaments and everything in between.
[00:01:14] From the challenges of recruitment during COVID to the mental and emotional roller coaster that comes with being a student athlete,
[00:01:20] we'll be sharing the perspectives of both the parent and athlete and firsthand experience of the impact of sports on mental health and the importance of support from the sidelines.
[00:01:29] Welcome back everybody to Catching You, my name is Rusty Ham.
[00:01:37] With you is my beautiful other co-host, my daughter Lacie, how are you?
[00:01:41] Good, how are you?
[00:01:44] Fantastic. Just got back from parents weekend of your brothers at Utah Techs met his girlfriend.
[00:01:53] So things are looking up for the boy.
[00:01:57] Little man?
[00:01:59] Little man is not a little man.
[00:02:01] He only is a man.
[00:02:04] So we're going to come out this weekend to your place.
[00:02:08] Hang out a bit with you and Olaia and her boyfriend.
[00:02:14] Can't wait to meet them.
[00:02:17] Lace, let's talk about this is your senior year, month into your school year, right?
[00:02:22] Month and a half for so?
[00:02:24] Yeah, state. We're almost two months into school.
[00:02:28] Oh, two months into school? Okay.
[00:02:30] Yeah, wait a month and a half.
[00:02:33] Sure. That's what I did say.
[00:02:35] A little work.
[00:02:40] Anyway, so this is a 180 from last year, right?
[00:02:44] So last year you had a good summer.
[00:02:47] I thought we had a good summer.
[00:02:48] You and I working on staying back.
[00:02:51] We did some drills.
[00:02:53] I felt like you were faster.
[00:02:56] You talked about that.
[00:02:58] You were complaining about your scapula in the summer,
[00:03:03] but it wasn't too bad, right?
[00:03:05] It was just like, this was just uncomfortable, right?
[00:03:08] Yeah, it definitely started in the spring.
[00:03:12] And it was more like March, April time.
[00:03:17] But I always complain about this constant knot in my shoulder
[00:03:21] that could never be fixed.
[00:03:27] Just like my trainer was always massaging it out
[00:03:29] and it's not budging.
[00:03:32] It was just a knot.
[00:03:34] It was not uncomfortable in any way during my sophomore season.
[00:03:40] I pitched all the way up until the tournament,
[00:03:43] but we went through summer
[00:03:46] and still had this knot going into junior year.
[00:03:50] And it turned into something that I didn't really like.
[00:03:52] People say pitchers, you guys can pitch forever
[00:03:56] because of the way your arms slot,
[00:03:59] the way you pitched, you can pitch multiple games in a day,
[00:04:03] which you did when you were younger
[00:04:04] and you didn't have any problems.
[00:04:06] But pitchers can get injured.
[00:04:08] Their arms can be, can you get it injured?
[00:04:11] You definitely have to care for it.
[00:04:14] You can't just pitch pitch and not do anything about it.
[00:04:17] And mind you, I was going into treatment all the time.
[00:04:22] Like I was getting ice on my arm.
[00:04:24] I was doing contrast on my arm.
[00:04:29] People know what Norma Tech is.
[00:04:31] It's like the inflatable thing and then it puts pressure
[00:04:33] and then it deflates.
[00:04:34] So I was doing all of that stuff
[00:04:37] and nothing really works.
[00:04:39] And then on top of that, you had a new pitching coach.
[00:04:42] He was a veteran type of coach,
[00:04:46] meaning he was a little older.
[00:04:48] He's actually older than I am.
[00:04:50] So we had some old school type of drills, thoughts.
[00:04:57] And I don't think he knew the rules at the time
[00:05:00] where you had a certain amount of hours per week
[00:05:03] and he was really, you threw a lot of bullpins.
[00:05:07] A lot of live, right?
[00:05:09] And during this fall semester,
[00:05:11] so it's the semester of my junior year, fall semester,
[00:05:14] which is I'm finishing out all my GEs.
[00:05:17] I probably had two left.
[00:05:19] And then now I'm taking a good majority of my major classes.
[00:05:25] And for my major, for psychology,
[00:05:29] a lot of the classes are in the morning.
[00:05:32] There's only if you have to take this certain major class,
[00:05:35] you have to take it.
[00:05:36] And then there's only a certain amount of times
[00:05:38] that you can take this class.
[00:05:40] So I was missing a lot of practice.
[00:05:45] Team practices, I was probably gone for about half of it
[00:05:48] every single day out of the week except Fridays
[00:05:50] because I didn't have class on Friday.
[00:05:52] My one-on-one bullpin would either be before team practice
[00:05:57] or after team practice.
[00:05:59] I would get there super early or I'd be staying super late.
[00:06:05] And they were long bullpins.
[00:06:08] And I wasn't complaining because I'm just not a complainer
[00:06:14] in general, but sooner or later,
[00:06:17] I could not even move my arm in a circle.
[00:06:20] Like that, that not, I don't even know how to explain it.
[00:06:24] It felt like something was like jabbing into my shoulder
[00:06:27] every time I went like up towards 12 o'clock
[00:06:31] and then down into my whip.
[00:06:33] But man, and then I remember calling you one time
[00:06:36] and I'm like, it hurts to breathe.
[00:06:38] Yeah, I remember that.
[00:06:40] I was like, why is it hurt to breathe?
[00:06:42] But I go to my athletic trainer and she's,
[00:06:45] you need a, it's basically inflammation.
[00:06:47] So I'm taking anti-inflammatories
[00:06:50] and that barely works.
[00:06:54] So after that first week of anti-inflammatories,
[00:06:57] I'm like, see if I could pitch again
[00:07:00] and I do three circles and I'm like, I cannot pitch.
[00:07:03] And so this is about the time where fall ball is starting,
[00:07:07] like literally a year ago today.
[00:07:10] And she's, you have to sit out until that inflammation goes down.
[00:07:14] And I'm like, how long is that?
[00:07:16] She's probably a month.
[00:07:18] Oh, so all of fall ball.
[00:07:21] Right.
[00:07:22] And you don't like sitting out.
[00:07:24] Like the last time you got to sit out was horrific,
[00:07:28] you know, ball hitting your head into your skull
[00:07:31] and you had to literally sit out.
[00:07:33] You loved it.
[00:07:34] Yeah.
[00:07:35] So this was different.
[00:07:37] This is a different kind of injury.
[00:07:39] We had a good summer, like I said, as far as techniques.
[00:07:42] You were wanting to implement that.
[00:07:44] Now you're injured.
[00:07:45] You can't play.
[00:07:46] You have a new pitching coach.
[00:07:49] I think you get in one game of fall.
[00:07:53] The last game against Stanford.
[00:07:55] Oh no.
[00:07:56] I didn't even play against Stanford.
[00:07:58] I didn't play against Stanford.
[00:07:59] And then we went to West Valley and I pitched,
[00:08:02] I think the last two innings of the West Valley game,
[00:08:05] but only two innings all the fall.
[00:08:08] Yeah.
[00:08:09] So that's not going to help going into the season.
[00:08:12] So talk about, we've talked about in the past
[00:08:14] that you didn't have a very good junior year season.
[00:08:18] Part A or strikeouts, your strikeouts were way down.
[00:08:22] Yeah.
[00:08:23] It was a combination of a lot of things, right?
[00:08:25] It was a combination of new pitching coach,
[00:08:27] not having a good fall or not having a fall at all.
[00:08:31] And just not having a good season.
[00:08:33] I think mentally you're probably not all there.
[00:08:37] You're at a time, I don't know if you want to
[00:08:39] chend up your season and the difference between
[00:08:43] kind of like, because that's hard.
[00:08:45] You have this injury.
[00:08:47] Again, we talked about mindset.
[00:08:48] We talked about mental health.
[00:08:50] You're shut down for the fall.
[00:08:53] And then you're expected to do well right off the bat.
[00:08:57] Yeah.
[00:08:58] Right.
[00:08:59] There's only so much pitching live to your own team can do.
[00:09:03] So now my teammates have, the girls that are my age
[00:09:07] have seen me so many times.
[00:09:10] They know my sequences.
[00:09:11] They know my spin.
[00:09:12] They know when a changeup is coming.
[00:09:14] They've seen me way too many times.
[00:09:16] And I bet girls in travel ball can relate.
[00:09:20] They probably do live every single weekend.
[00:09:24] And their teammates gradually start catching on to their
[00:09:28] their sequences and how they, their timing and everything.
[00:09:34] So when I'm pitching live to my team,
[00:09:37] like after I come back from my inflammation,
[00:09:41] I'm just getting pieced up really.
[00:09:44] Because I haven't pitched in a month.
[00:09:47] They're throwing me into live against my team who knows
[00:09:50] exactly what I pitch.
[00:09:53] And I live is the time for pitchers to really establish
[00:09:58] confidence, establish a routine, pre-pitch routine,
[00:10:03] post-pitch routine, especially in fall ball against other teams
[00:10:07] that don't know you as well.
[00:10:09] Now you can get in the groove of being in game mode.
[00:10:13] But now when I'm in live against my own team,
[00:10:17] I just feel defeated.
[00:10:19] And so now I'm just going into winter break.
[00:10:22] I'm like, what do I do?
[00:10:24] Because after I come back from winter break, it's season.
[00:10:27] We have double days and then February we start
[00:10:30] season against other teams.
[00:10:31] I've seen two innings against other teams.
[00:10:35] And the last time I pitched against another team was
[00:10:38] in May of that year.
[00:10:41] So almost a whole year of not seeing any other teams.
[00:10:45] I go into February.
[00:10:47] And obviously our first weekend was not good at all.
[00:10:50] So the all is, they say it's not important, but like for
[00:10:54] pitchers, I feel like it's really crucial,
[00:10:56] especially building confidence and knowing what
[00:11:00] your routine is going to be and knowing what your
[00:11:04] mental routine is going to be.
[00:11:07] So I love fall ball.
[00:11:10] Yeah.
[00:11:10] And then nothing against junior college, right?
[00:11:12] These girls.
[00:11:13] Yeah.
[00:11:14] They're not like, they're not horrible.
[00:11:16] They're, they're, these are good girls.
[00:11:18] Maybe they didn't have the grades to get to a four year
[00:11:20] college.
[00:11:21] So they still have talent.
[00:11:22] They're just maybe taking the first two years to
[00:11:25] get better and then maybe, and then transfer
[00:11:28] that four year.
[00:11:29] So typically in the fall ball you're going to,
[00:11:31] you're going to play some JCs and you pitched
[00:11:33] last couple of days ago and you did really well.
[00:11:37] And then you're going to pitch again this weekend,
[00:11:40] right?
[00:11:40] Yeah.
[00:11:41] A couple of weeks.
[00:11:42] So you're coming this weekend for parents weekend and
[00:11:45] then the week after that we, we play San Jose City
[00:11:48] College and then go to West Valley.
[00:11:50] Where?
[00:11:51] They're both pretty good ju, jucos.
[00:11:53] Yeah.
[00:11:54] There is a top juco's up in your area and so it's
[00:11:56] good for confidence building.
[00:11:58] Like I said, you're pitching live against different
[00:12:00] girls, different people.
[00:12:02] They don't know when your changeup's going
[00:12:03] to come.
[00:12:04] Like your team probably knows exactly when you're
[00:12:06] going to throw the changeup.
[00:12:07] Now you got this.
[00:12:09] So again, junior season, not very good.
[00:12:13] Even your team, you almost got last place.
[00:12:18] Like your second to last is, you're almost like
[00:12:23] mentally it's hard because now you're going in
[00:12:25] your senior, you're like, I don't want to have a
[00:12:27] senior life like this.
[00:12:29] Yeah.
[00:12:29] So the pitching coach resigns.
[00:12:32] You get a new one.
[00:12:34] She's super young.
[00:12:36] She has energy, which we talked about before.
[00:12:40] Like, God, I hope, I think I said to you, I hope we
[00:12:42] get somebody young and it just has a ton of energy
[00:12:45] and has, because when they're super young, they
[00:12:47] probably have ideas on what to do and they
[00:12:50] don't have all these old school ideas, which
[00:12:52] is good.
[00:12:53] So you got a fresh mind in there.
[00:12:55] So talk about now with the new pitching
[00:12:59] coach and this fall.
[00:13:00] It's like a 1-80.
[00:13:02] What would you say?
[00:13:03] 1-80?
[00:13:03] 1-80, yeah.
[00:13:04] 1-80?
[00:13:05] Because 3-6.
[00:13:06] 3-6 need to be about the country where you
[00:13:08] were.
[00:13:09] Yeah.
[00:13:11] 1-80.
[00:13:14] Where our bullpins are definitely more quality
[00:13:18] over quantity, I'd say.
[00:13:21] So we're pitching less, but she has a lot of
[00:13:26] focus on the intent of our pitches.
[00:13:29] So every pitch has some sort of intention.
[00:13:32] So like this past weekend, we'd focus on
[00:13:36] quality innings and there's certain columns
[00:13:38] to each that make up a quality innings
[00:13:41] such as how many pitches did you pitch
[00:13:43] in the innings?
[00:13:43] So our goal is 15 or less.
[00:13:45] How many batters did you face?
[00:13:47] It's five or less.
[00:13:49] First pitch strike percentage, which is
[00:13:52] like 66%.
[00:13:53] Rent-free.
[00:13:55] Oh, that's great.
[00:13:56] Yeah.
[00:13:58] And run scored and or walks.
[00:14:02] Yeah.
[00:14:03] So we calculate all of the stats of that
[00:14:06] like inning and then it was it, is it a
[00:14:09] quality inning or was it not a quality
[00:14:10] inning?
[00:14:11] On Sunday, all of our innings were
[00:14:14] quality like throughout the whole pitching
[00:14:16] staff, all six of us, all of us had
[00:14:18] quality innings.
[00:14:19] There was no like not quality innings.
[00:14:21] But what's crazy is we played that
[00:14:24] same team last year around the same
[00:14:27] time and we almost lost.
[00:14:31] Like it was a one run game.
[00:14:33] To do the college.
[00:14:34] Yeah, our run is a walk-off.
[00:14:36] I'm over.
[00:14:37] Yes, we won.
[00:14:38] And we're like last year we were like,
[00:14:41] oh my gosh, this is insane.
[00:14:44] Like we're going to get chewed out
[00:14:45] and we did get chewed out.
[00:14:47] But this year first pitch,
[00:14:49] our lefty, one of our lefty
[00:14:51] sappers hits eight inside the
[00:14:53] park home run.
[00:14:54] First pitch of the game.
[00:14:56] Second pitch triple.
[00:14:58] Third pitch double.
[00:15:00] It was insane.
[00:15:01] It was such a different it just
[00:15:03] seems like a different team in my
[00:15:05] eyes.
[00:15:06] We're playing so loose and we're
[00:15:08] having so much fun.
[00:15:10] And you can tell all the girls are
[00:15:12] just really into putting all their
[00:15:14] energy into that our first game,
[00:15:17] our first ever game together.
[00:15:18] We probably won over.
[00:15:21] We scored over 25 runs on Sunday
[00:15:26] and compared to our one run game
[00:15:29] last year, like it was insane.
[00:15:32] And I just I think it's really good.
[00:15:36] Let's take a quick break.
[00:15:39] If you want to leave us a message,
[00:15:41] use the link in the show notes.
[00:15:43] And if you want us to respond,
[00:15:45] leave your name and email address.
[00:15:47] Also please rate us in or leave a
[00:15:50] review as we're trying to grow
[00:15:52] this show every day.
[00:15:53] Finally, Lacey and I both love
[00:15:55] coffee.
[00:15:55] We would greatly appreciate any
[00:15:57] contribution to the show.
[00:15:58] That link is also in the show notes.
[00:16:01] Thank you.
[00:16:01] Take care.
[00:16:06] Yeah, and you're so you're at your
[00:16:09] place and if you guys don't know
[00:16:11] San Jose State, the fences are
[00:16:13] they're very pitcher friendly.
[00:16:17] 235 down the line.
[00:16:19] I think to to tour.
[00:16:21] Dead center.
[00:16:22] Yeah, 245 dead center.
[00:16:24] 235 downline.
[00:16:25] So for a softball field,
[00:16:26] that's that's a pictures paradise.
[00:16:29] I don't think you give I think you
[00:16:30] maybe give it up in your four years
[00:16:32] there one home run maybe.
[00:16:34] Now there is three boys you stay
[00:16:36] right so more than two.
[00:16:38] Okay, I would believe less than 10.
[00:16:41] Yes, which is yeah.
[00:16:43] And that's awesome that
[00:16:46] and that now was your hope this
[00:16:48] year right your senior year you were
[00:16:49] hoping to again season that over
[00:16:52] so things to change now.
[00:16:54] But your hope was going into that
[00:16:56] you would get a quality pitching coach.
[00:16:59] Some of that you can relate to
[00:17:01] and then you could just go out there
[00:17:03] and I don't want to say have fun
[00:17:06] but be relaxed.
[00:17:08] Now your expectations of winning
[00:17:10] conference, you know,
[00:17:13] you guys are probably like maybe not
[00:17:14] we will go for it, but
[00:17:16] we definitely don't want to be last.
[00:17:18] I are I think our thought process
[00:17:21] so we come in first team meeting,
[00:17:24] especially as pitchers are pitching coach said
[00:17:28] every single Mountain West team
[00:17:30] lost their starting pitcher.
[00:17:33] We're the only Mountain West team
[00:17:35] where all our pitchers came back
[00:17:36] we have a whole our whole staff back
[00:17:38] from last year and she sees that
[00:17:41] as the biggest opportunity ever
[00:17:44] to have our whole pitching staff back
[00:17:46] and say like the other Mountain West teams
[00:17:49] like lost either one
[00:17:51] or two of their starting pitchers.
[00:17:53] And what I like about your team is
[00:17:56] no one went into the transfer for everyone stayed.
[00:17:59] Yeah, cool. You don't see that all out lately.
[00:18:01] Especially when you're second to last
[00:18:03] you would imagine some girl.
[00:18:05] This place sucks and I'm out of here
[00:18:07] but they didn't do that which is cool.
[00:18:09] That's a testimony to Tammy
[00:18:11] and yeah and your pitching coach
[00:18:14] was did you want to see the picture
[00:18:16] of the year last year?
[00:18:19] Picture of the year, yes.
[00:18:21] The Mountain West picture of the year is
[00:18:22] not there anymore.
[00:18:24] She's actually on your side which is a good picture.
[00:18:27] It was funny she was talking about
[00:18:30] the other day when she posted that she got the job
[00:18:34] everyone was like
[00:18:35] I thought this was like another commitment post
[00:18:37] like I thought you were committing to see this state
[00:18:41] but and then she was like
[00:18:42] no I'm gonna be the pitching coach there
[00:18:44] and they're like whoa that's a crazy advantage
[00:18:46] because she knows every Mountain West team inside and out.
[00:18:49] She knows lineup and obviously if they get new girls
[00:18:52] they get new girls but she knows
[00:18:55] hitters very well.
[00:18:57] Yeah, she's older right? She's not like 22 years.
[00:19:00] She's a six year player.
[00:19:03] She's got some maturity.
[00:19:04] Sounds like she's got a game plan which is cool
[00:19:06] like the intention behind pitches.
[00:19:10] Every pitch there's gonna be an intention behind it
[00:19:12] which is super cool
[00:19:14] because now your thought process is
[00:19:17] and you guys might eventually be on the same page
[00:19:19] like she calls a pitch and go yeah that was a pitch
[00:19:22] I was thinking something like that.
[00:19:25] Okay so now describe the coming year
[00:19:30] you are at the Mary Nutter
[00:19:34] So exciting.
[00:19:36] Next.
[00:19:37] That's every girl's face so when you go to the Mary Nutter
[00:19:40] if you've never been there
[00:19:41] tons and tons of little girls
[00:19:44] with softballs or jerseys or whatever
[00:19:47] and they walk around and they get
[00:19:50] their jersey signed by college players right?
[00:19:53] You were one of them when you're
[00:19:55] and then now you're there and not many girls can say
[00:20:00] okay I went to Mary Nutter and got Sierra Romero's autograph
[00:20:04] now I get to go and play there
[00:20:06] and I'm probably gonna be signing some autographs.
[00:20:08] I don't describe the feeling behind it.
[00:20:12] It's weird.
[00:20:13] I was telling you the other day
[00:20:15] obviously like some are scheduled for the Mary Nutter
[00:20:17] we're playing some teams we've already played before
[00:20:20] and like when
[00:20:22] the Mark Campbell Invitational
[00:20:24] all those teams we've never played before
[00:20:26] and they're all ranked top 25
[00:20:28] that was like the dream of all those teams.
[00:20:32] The biggest team we're probably playing is Nebraska
[00:20:35] which is cool.
[00:20:36] I know some girls on that team now
[00:20:39] that I played against growing up
[00:20:42] and it's on one of the main fields
[00:20:44] so everyone wants to be on one of the main fields
[00:20:47] that big dreams.
[00:20:49] So that's really cool
[00:20:50] having the opportunity to possibly pitch against them
[00:20:54] and it's weird because we'd be on in the outfield
[00:20:58] in the metal bleachers with my teammates
[00:21:01] and we'd all be in there our little dry fit jerseys
[00:21:06] with our balls and then our little catalog
[00:21:08] and then after or like in the background
[00:21:11] like UCLA is warming up
[00:21:13] we're like on the other side
[00:21:14] I don't know, Oklahoma's warming up
[00:21:18] and I would just see the pitchers in the bullpen
[00:21:21] and it was just they look so big.
[00:21:24] Like those girls look so huge
[00:21:26] but now I'm that huge girl to some players.
[00:21:31] So surreal but yeah
[00:21:33] are they giving autographs or are they going to go to Jordy Ball?
[00:21:36] I don't know.
[00:21:38] I would imagine you'll get some autographs.
[00:21:42] You did last year at LME or you got a couple of autographs.
[00:21:46] You marked the one in the LME one, yeah.
[00:21:50] Cool so...
[00:21:51] What do you think about me playing in the Mary Nutter?
[00:21:54] Because you would take me to Parchment.
[00:21:56] Oh yeah it is surreal because we booked Airbnb
[00:22:00] to go out there
[00:22:02] and me and you would sit in the outfield behind the fence
[00:22:05] and watch them play
[00:22:06] and you'd sit there and just wide-eyed just
[00:22:09] oh my god these girls are like you said they're just so big
[00:22:11] and then now you're going to do it
[00:22:13] and I'm just so proud of you because you know you kept bugging Tambi
[00:22:17] He kept bugging Tambi
[00:22:18] We have to play there, we have to play there
[00:22:22] I was happy when we did the Mark Campbell one
[00:22:24] I would have been fine just doing that one
[00:22:27] but I'm like I wouldn't play in the Mary Nutter
[00:22:30] I want to play it
[00:22:32] You also played at the Cal State Four and you played some really top teams there right?
[00:22:35] You played Cal State Four to Oregon
[00:22:37] We played UCLA last year
[00:22:39] so it's not like these other tournaments that you went to
[00:22:44] they're really good too
[00:22:45] The Mark Campbell one was Oklahoma, Duke, Liberty
[00:22:50] Oregon, or was it Oregon?
[00:22:53] Stamford Watch and Stamford is the Holy Cow
[00:22:55] You didn't fare too well but you got to play against those teams
[00:22:59] I'm super excited for you
[00:23:00] just because of our conversation prior to going to your senior year
[00:23:03] that you wanted certain things right
[00:23:07] because we've talked about it with other people that we've interviewed right
[00:23:11] some people just want their senior year to be over with
[00:23:14] because they've had a terrible experience
[00:23:15] some people don't want it to end because they've had a super awesome experience
[00:23:20] you're in between
[00:23:21] I don't know if I wanted it to end
[00:23:24] but I also don't want to have a bad season
[00:23:27] and have that attitude
[00:23:28] which is you don't want to struggle like you did last year
[00:23:33] and then have that attitude
[00:23:35] I can't just wait until the season is over
[00:23:37] I don't know if you want to touch upon
[00:23:39] now that you're senior your mentality is first
[00:23:43] the end is almost near
[00:23:44] and we're kind of thought presses are going to enter your head
[00:23:47] I've had some of my younger teammates ask me the same thing
[00:23:50] like just randomly if we're going to practice or something
[00:23:54] and it really hasn't settled set in yet
[00:23:59] and I don't really know why
[00:24:00] maybe it will when like season starts
[00:24:04] possibly but right now I'm like
[00:24:07] I got practiced tomorrow
[00:24:09] it's just really it's the regular routine for me
[00:24:13] but I think
[00:24:14] it'll definitely set in like
[00:24:16] towards the end like maybe senior day
[00:24:19] senior day for sure
[00:24:23] maybe if I choose to go to grad school
[00:24:25] and I get accepted somewhere that I'm like oh
[00:24:29] okay
[00:24:30] next
[00:24:31] I also think too that you are going to be playing against some girls that you've played with
[00:24:36] and it's their senior year
[00:24:39] yeah right so
[00:24:41] all maybe looking at any other dugout and saying
[00:24:43] okay what's just the last time we're going to
[00:24:46] maybe see each other again
[00:24:47] and then memories start flooding back in your head
[00:24:51] I'm looking forward to seeing you thrive this year
[00:24:54] because you've had a bumpy road
[00:24:56] no
[00:24:58] usually you do well
[00:25:00] preseason
[00:25:02] because it seems that you typically don't see
[00:25:04] and so they don't know you
[00:25:06] and then in the past
[00:25:08] you've had some struggles in conference
[00:25:11] and I think it's just because
[00:25:13] they scout you
[00:25:14] they know what you're going to throw next
[00:25:15] and there are certain pitches
[00:25:17] I think last year they were sitting on
[00:25:21] certain pitches
[00:25:22] okay we're going to let that one go by
[00:25:24] because I know this next one is going to come
[00:25:26] they did not want to hit my rise ball
[00:25:28] they really didn't
[00:25:29] and that led to me throwing other pitches
[00:25:31] I'm not as confident in
[00:25:33] as my rise ball and then it just
[00:25:35] fell balls so
[00:25:36] I was I'm still confident in my rise ball
[00:25:39] and especially preseason
[00:25:40] that's probably like my main pitch is my
[00:25:42] rise ball but they like no matter how
[00:25:44] good my rise ball was they just
[00:25:46] sat and took the sat and took it
[00:25:49] and obviously wanted to
[00:25:50] in the strike zone because that might get launched
[00:25:54] so they were probably sitting on that and
[00:25:56] saying hey just it's probably going to be a
[00:25:58] ball so let's get get ahead of an account
[00:26:00] and let's wait for the high-changed up
[00:26:03] or the screwball awesome stuff
[00:26:05] I'm looking forward to seeing you this weekend
[00:26:09] what do you want to do?
[00:26:11] what do you want to do?
[00:26:13] hang out
[00:26:15] we're going to the football game
[00:26:16] we don't need to do what we did with Jesse
[00:26:20] which is we went miniature golfing
[00:26:21] and we went bowling
[00:26:23] okay
[00:26:24] we don't need to do that
[00:26:25] we're good at going to the
[00:26:30] San Francisco
[00:26:31] San Francisco
[00:26:31] we can get a
[00:26:32] Santa Cruz
[00:26:34] yep
[00:26:35] whatever you're the host so you tell us what we're doing
[00:26:39] I got to figure it out
[00:26:40] okay alright
[00:26:41] we're going to get out of here
[00:26:43] thanks for hopping on
[00:26:45] I love you
[00:26:45] I love you
[00:26:47] catch every bale on the other side
[00:26:49] bye everybody
