[00:00:00] And when I was a junior in college, I only have 120 games left if I'm lucky.

[00:00:05] So, every single game, I was really cherishing, cherishing every single moment.

[00:00:10] I was that person that was taking pictures all the time and everything.

[00:00:14] And my very sentimental person, and I remember my senior year, we had a few games get canceled due to snow.

[00:00:20] And I remember being so upset because that was my senior year.

[00:00:25] I didn't want it. I didn't want to, the games to be canceled.

[00:00:31] And yeah, I didn't know I was going to cry.

[00:00:34] But yeah, the game is being canceled, just as snow.

[00:00:37] No, I can still play. Everyone had to go home.

[00:00:41] So whatever's on your schedule, you never know. It's going to be rain now or snow out or anything.

[00:00:46] Hello and welcome to Catching You, a Dad and Daughters Softball Journey.

[00:00:51] I'm Rusty, a Dad who's been in the dugout and on the sidelines.

[00:00:55] And I'm Lacey, the daughter who's journeyed through Softball has been filled with incredible wins, tough losses

[00:01:00] and so many lessons both on and off the field.

[00:01:03] For the past 16 years, we've navigated the highest and lowest of Softball together

[00:01:07] from the local fields to national tournaments and everything in between.

[00:01:11] From the challenges of recruitment during COVID to the mental and emotional rollercoaster that comes

[00:01:15] with being a student athlete, we'll be sharing the perspectives of both a parent and athlete

[00:01:20] and first-hand experience of the impact of sports on mental health

[00:01:23] and the importance of support from the sidelines.

[00:01:26] Welcome back everybody to Catching You,

[00:01:29] I'm your co-host Rusty Ham.

[00:01:32] With me is my other co-host Lacey Ham.

[00:01:35] Hi.

[00:01:37] Hi. Today we have a guest. Our name is Emily Watson.

[00:01:40] She played for Tulsa from 2015-2018.

[00:01:46] 2018 after her senior season, she got drafted in the national professional fast pitch so that's awesome.

[00:01:55] She also started a podcast in 2022.

[00:02:00] It was originally once an athlete and that she's changed it to Rosemiteau.

[00:02:04] We're going to get into that as well and that she also does private lessons,

[00:02:08] private lessons coach and the name of that is becoming that pitch.

[00:02:14] Welcome Emily, thanks for joining us.

[00:02:17] Thank you. Thank you so much for having me here.

[00:02:19] Yeah, you're welcome.

[00:02:20] Hey, so for the audience, just tell us a little bit about yourself.

[00:02:25] Growing up, words grow up, wreck ball, travel ball.

[00:02:29] We don't work to describe the early beginnings of Emily and herself in her career.

[00:02:34] Yeah, I listened to you guys' first episode and it sounds a lot like how I started.

[00:02:40] So I started when I was four years old playing tea ball and wreck ball in Chico, California.

[00:02:47] I just loved the game.

[00:02:49] I tried to do soccer and dance and whatever and I was just like,

[00:02:53] no, I love softball.

[00:02:55] Sock was softball started to play competitively when I was probably about nine.

[00:03:01] And everyone else was pitching and I was like, nope, I'm not going to do it.

[00:03:05] That's way too close to the batter.

[00:03:07] I'm scared of getting hit.

[00:03:09] And I was like, you know what?

[00:03:12] I'm just going to do it.

[00:03:13] And so I started to pitch when I was brought nine,

[00:03:18] nine or ten and then fun fact when I was 10,

[00:03:21] I broke my pinky toe.

[00:03:23] So that made it kind of hard to pitch.

[00:03:26] And now a twenty second years old,

[00:03:28] I broke my first official bone.

[00:03:31] Jump rope.

[00:03:35] So I played wreck and trouble when I was nine through thirteen in Chico.

[00:03:42] So on my thirteen birthday, I went to Oklahoma,

[00:03:45] played school ball and trouble ball and played all the way until I graduated high school,

[00:03:51] went to Tulsa, was all American there and then got drafted to play professionally.

[00:03:56] Play the season went to Oregon was a grad assistant for the Oregon ducks

[00:04:01] or technically it was a grad manager since I didn't go there from the grad.

[00:04:05] Was there for 2019 to 2021 and loved it there,

[00:04:10] but I decided I really like to work with kids one on one or just teachers one on one.

[00:04:16] And went to San Diego and lived there,

[00:04:20] hung out for a couple years and now I'm back in Oklahoma,

[00:04:23] near my family doing lessons,

[00:04:26] doing becoming that pitch, doing rose metal.

[00:04:29] That's kind of the overall like general thing.

[00:04:34] And gosh, I don't mean just like sound is so insensitive saying like I didn't want to get hit.

[00:04:39] So I need to like talk about the problem.

[00:04:42] I've listened to your podcast of course and you talked about like feeling like you thought

[00:04:47] everyone thought was lame.

[00:04:49] You were lame for wearing your mask?

[00:04:51] Yeah, it's long your head like no one literally no one cares.

[00:04:54] Like I like it's all about what you think about.

[00:04:58] So I wore a mask all the way from like 11 years old until

[00:05:03] I would still today if I was playing.

[00:05:06] And then I wore a mouse guard for a bit.

[00:05:09] Oh wow.

[00:05:11] There's just no there's no telling like if you're going to get hit or not,

[00:05:15] like whether you hit your spot,

[00:05:18] like that hitter could be still good enough to hit you right.

[00:05:22] But I wanted to ask you like it's kind of unclear what age you were when that happened.

[00:05:28] I was 14, how's 14?

[00:05:34] But the mask thing is mostly because

[00:05:38] I looked up to the older girls a lot in the organization

[00:05:42] and none of them, none of them wore masks.

[00:05:44] So I thought they were like cool because of it.

[00:05:46] So I'm like I'm going to be cool not wearing mask.

[00:05:49] And then there's like the other team of other girls

[00:05:52] definitely wear wearing masks at that time.

[00:05:55] And I'm like oh they're not cool blah, blah, blah.

[00:05:57] But it is cool to wear one now for sure.

[00:06:00] I agree.

[00:06:01] I agree.

[00:06:01] Because there's just it is I feel like you're lucky to like never get hit.

[00:06:06] Like you said like I've been hitting the shins just like you like I've been hit everywhere

[00:06:11] and gosh it just being hit in the head or the face like I've seen it happen

[00:06:18] is it's going to happen.

[00:06:19] And yeah, I'm so sorry that it happened to you.

[00:06:22] Yeah, I mean even if she was wearing a mask it would still have to end yeah.

[00:06:28] Yeah because yeah,

[00:06:29] because one of my teammates like turned like that and hit the back of red

[00:06:33] was that what happened with you?

[00:06:34] Yeah, yeah.

[00:06:35] Yeah.

[00:06:36] Crazy stuff.

[00:06:37] So so I'm like go back to to rag.

[00:06:40] What was your favorite team name?

[00:06:42] Very interesting.

[00:06:44] Yeah, what was your favorite?

[00:06:47] Yeah, it was the the little mermaids.

[00:06:50] The little mermaid.

[00:06:52] That's great.

[00:06:53] I love that.

[00:06:54] I would have loved that name honestly.

[00:06:57] Yeah, and you have what names too?

[00:06:58] Did you have nicknames too back then?

[00:07:01] You know, I don't remember if I had.

[00:07:03] I think I was like sharky for it because I was always known to be like in the pool

[00:07:08] whenever I'm not pitching.

[00:07:10] Like I was always like swimming outside and stuff but

[00:07:13] um no, not very many nicknames.

[00:07:16] I do know that there was like a fall team that I was on a fall wreck team

[00:07:20] that like it wasn't as serious so I was I was allowed to like choose the name

[00:07:23] with the team and I went with like pretty pink princesses or something.

[00:07:27] I don't know.

[00:07:29] I should have just done little mermaids too.

[00:07:30] That was way.

[00:07:31] That's right.

[00:07:31] Yeah.

[00:07:33] Yeah, like what was your favorite one again?

[00:07:37] I would say probably like con candy crushers.

[00:07:41] It's con candy crushers that's right.

[00:07:43] Yeah.

[00:07:44] Yeah.

[00:07:45] Yeah.

[00:07:45] Her mom was the head coach was pretty cool.

[00:07:48] All right so let's let's talk about your podcast Emily.

[00:07:52] Again it was once an athlete and then you changed it to Rose Metal.

[00:07:58] There's probably a little story behind that so can you describe

[00:08:01] why the change and what Rose Metal means?

[00:08:03] Yeah so I started once an athlete by like that was the domain

[00:08:08] that was available out of the names that I was coming up with to talk about life after sports.

[00:08:14] And so I was doing podcast interviews talking to athletes that

[00:08:19] I was having to mostly retire in athletes but some current

[00:08:23] and talking about like what they expect life after sports to be type of thing.

[00:08:27] And I had you know someone on the show that is a little bit more popular.

[00:08:33] And I don't know if it was this person saw the real or the TikTok

[00:08:38] than I made of that person but it happened right after I had that person on the show

[00:08:42] where someone stole my name and was messaging me telling me that they

[00:08:48] that they like owned that now and they trademarked it.

[00:08:51] Oh well.

[00:08:53] I was like I talked just some lawyers about it and I was like you know what

[00:08:57] I'm just going to make it a little bit more personable

[00:08:59] to me because Rose is my middle name and metal like you want to metal.

[00:09:04] So yeah I just made the change because I was like I don't even want to deal with trademark

[00:09:10] issues down the line because if it's happening already like 12 episodes in then

[00:09:16] it's probably going to happen again later so I just kind of let them have it

[00:09:21] so I was like whatever I'm just going to do Rose Metal and I'm kind of glad because

[00:09:25] now it's a nonprofit.

[00:09:26] It's as 501c3 nonprofit so one day I hope to it's a podcast because I'm trying to raise awareness

[00:09:33] for the cause.

[00:09:34] So the mission is to provide resources and support to current informer athletes.

[00:09:39] So the goal is to one day be able to give out scholarships to athletes to

[00:09:44] you know go back to school if their life was all being being an athlete then they probably

[00:09:49] chose a major that your school like your sport allowed you know what I mean or you might

[00:09:55] have chosen major that after you graduate undergrad you have to go back to school for something

[00:10:01] else or go to law school and you know your sport doesn't pay for it anymore so.

[00:10:06] That's good yeah.

[00:10:07] Absolutely.

[00:10:08] Yeah at the end we'll see how people can donate and all that kind of stuff you know Laces

[00:10:15] she's a junior so she's kind of like she I think she'd fit your profile I know she's

[00:10:19] going to be a senior right Lace I don't know if you want.

[00:10:22] Yeah I'm currently a junior I applied to a few internships for the summer I really haven't

[00:10:28] heard back from a few of them but I am like approaching my senior year and it is kind of scary

[00:10:37] for kind of not knowing what's going to happen afterwards and if like some people have jobs

[00:10:43] lined up some people don't some people go back live back home to save up money and there's all

[00:10:49] these things those all these factors that like go into not being an athlete anymore and but I just

[00:10:57] I'm majoring in psychology and minoring in kinesiology so I do want to stay in like the sports

[00:11:03] realm just anywhere in sports I'm really interested in sports psychology so definitely have to go

[00:11:11] back to school for that but yeah there's all these different things that I want to do but not

[00:11:16] I haven't really narrowed it down quite yet.

[00:11:18] Yeah and the internship between junior and senior year is super important so my best advice for

[00:11:25] college students especially in your position is to talk to your professor professors network with

[00:11:31] the people at your school because that's where you're going to get your connections it's all about

[00:11:35] who you know right so I would just keep your eyes open for who knows what and just express to them

[00:11:42] like I'm looking for an internship do you think anyone you know anyone that would have an opening

[00:11:48] what do you know about this place and like stuff like that just talk to your professors is my best

[00:11:52] advice. Awesome yeah so again you know our podcast is about a daughter and father's journey in

[00:12:00] softball and I you know I saw a couple questions before this episode and you said that you know

[00:12:07] your idol or somebody looked up to was your dad and he caught you I mean you put it in there

[00:12:13] that he caught you for years so can you I mean because that's kind of why we're doing this right

[00:12:19] is why the podcast is called catching you yeah I you know I don't maybe you heard my story a little

[00:12:25] bit but I didn't treat lacy very well when she first started I was not a very good father

[00:12:29] I mean I'm a father good father outside of football but when we were doing pitching lessons that was

[00:12:34] not a good father I was still a back hard to her as rolling it back to her I was pulling up

[00:12:38] moping body language is bad so describe your kind of relationship with your dad and how he

[00:12:45] helped you out with that. Yeah so I would put both my parents but I feel like you know due to the

[00:12:51] context of this conversation I'll put my dad both my parents were athletes my mom was a college

[00:12:59] athlete in track and my dad played baseball in football and so yeah when I started to play

[00:13:07] T-ball he got real excited that I was interested in you know the female version of his sport

[00:13:14] right and he loves baseball yeah and so yeah when I started pitching he was catching me on the bucket

[00:13:21] and I could throw hard but I was not accurate at all so you know it would just be like

[00:13:32] am I allowed to cut some of this of course okay yeah he was just like got damn

[00:13:38] him like throw a straw he could hold the bucket and just breaks the bucket and he like you know

[00:13:45] throw the bucket but obviously the bucket can't go far so like it's like I can see his frustration

[00:13:52] but yeah I had to find other ways to throw I had to find other people to catch so yeah I was

[00:14:02] frustrating you know the first couple years and I remember like I would get down on myself and

[00:14:08] and stuff like that and I don't remember this happening but my mom said that there was a time where

[00:14:14] I struck out and my dad got really mad at me and ever since then and I was like 10 years old

[00:14:21] 10 11 ever since then he's been chill so you know he was the guy and I'm gonna put my down on

[00:14:28] blast well he was the guy in my games with the margarita because he's like you know what I'm just

[00:14:33] gonna sit back relax and watch the game and anytime I felt down after the games he was like my

[00:14:40] biggest supporter he would be like why are you saying that like you know what to do like don't

[00:14:45] be down on yourself I'm gonna be upset if you stay down on yourself so he was I got really lucky

[00:14:50] with very supportive parents and good attitudes and I yeah I just feel really left you with that yeah

[00:15:00] well any advice to like people like you know for those dads out there right because part of

[00:15:06] this is you know some of the dads are listening to this and some of the you know the players listening

[00:15:10] with yeah advice to like maybe some of the girls that have a dad that's just like over the top

[00:15:16] you know like because you're doing picking lessons right you're probably pretty I'm sure you

[00:15:20] have some bucket dads that are just like kind of the same right with bad attitude or bodybuilding

[00:15:25] where it's cool yeah I have a dad that texted me the other day that was like man like this is

[00:15:32] this kind of makes me want to stop and I was like no like if you because he's coaching her

[00:15:39] he is the team coach and I was like it you need to look out for yourself too so if you are not

[00:15:46] feeling it like if you feel like it makes you want to quit and it's also making her frustrated

[00:15:50] and it just turns into like in not being fun anymore like both of you like if you both are

[00:15:57] feeling that way like maybe you should take a step back and he was like well I made a commitment

[00:16:01] for the year and I was like yes you know finish out your commitment and then reconsider

[00:16:07] being the team coach if you don't have to be the team coach take that step back because it can

[00:16:12] be really frustrating and it can turn into just butting heads the whole time just like I said

[00:16:17] like my dad was my coach when I was 10 on the pretty pink princesses team that was the last time he

[00:16:21] was my coach yeah I mean goodlaced you see it right you see a lot of girls just fall out of low

[00:16:29] and soft on and there's various reasons why but you know a lot of it has to do with you know

[00:16:34] parents and putting too much pressure on them right yeah because I recently started coaching

[00:16:39] I think my sophomore year so last year um and doing some lessons with girls

[00:16:47] and like I've had some experiences where I had to like calm down the situation and then

[00:16:52] and it's a very public like I worked for a company so there's multiple lessons going on

[00:16:58] out of time and I mean you could just feel the tension throughout the whole entire room and like they

[00:17:04] just shut the comment down and I can see the girl getting really frustrated and really down on

[00:17:08] herself and I just really I really feel for those girls because um I'm personally very hard on

[00:17:15] myself as it is and that's never changed since I was like nine years old and so just um

[00:17:21] I wanted to ask like when when you get like when you were little or when you're going through college

[00:17:28] and you got down on yourself and um I mean it's sounding like you're pretty hard on yourself as well

[00:17:33] um like how you got through yeah yeah yeah um got through those moments because I'm I still have

[00:17:42] those moments where I'm like going crazy yes um good question um I don't remember how I like

[00:17:51] I'm sure it was my parents that helped me calm down when I was younger um but as for college

[00:17:57] still my parents um and I would just think about okay I just need to move on and figure out

[00:18:03] what I need to do next because I don't want this to happen again uh so for example there was a time

[00:18:09] where we played against Wichita State and I I pitched and we got absolutely obliterated and

[00:18:18] I was like I remember after the game I went to my dad and I was like maybe I should just stop

[00:18:23] pitching like that is that was bad bad and he was like no you know what to do like he was like just

[00:18:30] no don't say that again just know like you won't let it happen again I was like you're right

[00:18:35] and I just went home and worked and I talked to the coach and I said what can I do

[00:18:40] to be better what can I do to make sure that never happens again he told me exactly what to do

[00:18:44] I did it and ever since then we beat them when I was pitching so nice yeah I it's just like hard

[00:18:51] moments are really hard in the moment but you gotta let it go like yes it's okay to feel upset

[00:18:56] in the moment but then you got to figure out okay why am I feeling upset okay they scored 13 runs

[00:19:02] okay next time I won't let them score 13 runs

[00:19:05] just have self-familiarly say hopefully hopefully hopefully yeah yeah and we Friday then go well

[00:19:15] and then uh I mean it was going well it was going well and then the will and that gel yeah

[00:19:22] and then but you came back Saturday right you made adjustments and you you kicked

[00:19:26] better on Saturday so that was good um so yeah I want to do some and know you did some X earlier

[00:19:33] and tic-tac today um but that was more for players I want what what are your dad X like

[00:19:39] what what what what X would you have that you know regarding dads oh uh I don't know

[00:19:49] is it I guess like I guess it would be like when I'm in the middle of a lesson

[00:19:56] and the dad is like come on let's go when I'm like hey whoa whoa you know um let's go as in like

[00:20:05] you know hit your spots and suddenly as an yes and they're putting pressure on them to perform

[00:20:09] in the lesson when it is a lesson it is practice we're not in a game uh so yeah that that kind of

[00:20:18] gives me the ache when a dad puts pressure on their kid during a lesson when they're clearly trying

[00:20:25] when they're clearly I'm telling them to push outside of their comfort zone they're supposed

[00:20:28] to mess up uh and a dad is like come on do better and I'm like no like we're doing fine so

[00:20:36] I think we should have them do burpees if they do something like that

[00:20:43] you know I did have a dad one time that so this is my you know overall it just in life but um

[00:20:51] really especially when it comes to players is when someone over apologizes and I did have a dad

[00:20:56] that said sorry every time he spoke and I saw his daughter doing the same thing and so I got on

[00:21:04] to her and she was like what my dad's doing it too and I was like almost making them both do

[00:21:08] on it because I was like I'm about to make you both do burpees because you both so

[00:21:13] were apologetic like stop apologizing you're here to learn okay both of you count and give me 10

[00:21:20] yes that's funny uh yeah cool uh so um you're doing private lessons called becoming that pitch so

[00:21:29] how did you come up with that name that that interest me too is it yeah yeah so about a year and

[00:21:36] a half ago I started my weight loss journey and I um I was trying to think of like

[00:21:43] a journal name that I would come up with if I wanted to do like a fitness turtle

[00:21:48] and I don't know I kind of never really went through with that but then I started thinking of like

[00:21:53] along the same lines of what I wanted to do for pitching and I don't know I just kind of came

[00:21:58] up with becoming that pitch like I want to be that pitch like uh so I want me supposed to be

[00:22:07] funny it's supposed to run with that pitch and um I made it the journal name here we go and so

[00:22:13] I put it on Amazon um and then I just kind of went off of that for everything else I

[00:22:19] I I after that I'm created a website for online training and I was like I'll just go off

[00:22:27] of what I made my journal becoming that pitch dot com and then it kind of turned into more than

[00:22:33] that I started making customized rosin bags I started to um sell some merchandise and stuff and so

[00:22:40] now it's a whole brand of becoming that pitch it just kind of started with um the journal name

[00:22:46] that I just randomly came up with one day yeah very cool um so um uh I don't call you

[00:22:52] like my wife's name is m.y.2 so I called him so I didn't mean to go to the uh

[00:22:56] way I did yet um so lace what did you what did you start today and and this kind of relates to

[00:23:02] some of your podcasts and we yeah I actually started the 75th hard today oh yeah

[00:23:09] with some friends so I think I'm I'm really glad that I get to do it like I'm doing it with my

[00:23:14] roommate and then two of my closest friends but even one of mine's one of them's a teammate so

[00:23:21] I mean it is kind of hard being a student athlete and going on the road and not really choosing like

[00:23:27] where we go to eat or like when we get to eat or workouts workout times so um just try I'm just

[00:23:35] starting so I'm gonna figure out a routine but um I really just wanted to do that for myself

[00:23:42] and I mean my parents definitely inspire me because this is what like their third time doing it

[00:23:48] really um so yeah I just and they gave me the book and all that stuff so nice yeah I started on

[00:23:55] Friday and um I didn't realize I just kind of wait for it I was like you know what just start so

[00:24:01] I started on Friday and then I forgot and I had like plans to go watch everyone play on Saturday

[00:24:08] so I jumped around a bunch of tournaments from 8 to 10 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and I woke up luckily my cat

[00:24:15] woke me up too early because I was like what am I gonna do oh I gotta do workout number one

[00:24:21] and that's right I did workout number one I choked half a gallon of water um before like 9 or 10

[00:24:29] a.m. and uh somehow squeezed in a second workout in between gains I yeah the time management is

[00:24:38] the hardest part yeah cuz you did it last year right cuz like you did three episodes on it

[00:24:43] I only listened to the first episode so I know you were gonna talk about like the out the

[00:24:47] challenges of the water and um all that kind of stuff but yeah yeah talking about the challenges

[00:24:53] you know cuz you weren't necessarily playing last year but you were you know coaching stuff so

[00:24:58] one of those challenges during the 75th hour that you had yeah yeah I went really in depth in

[00:25:05] those on the on the podcast but yeah I would say the biggest thing is the time management

[00:25:10] and then um yeah the the two workouts being I actually made them you know a couple hours

[00:25:17] apart you don't have to do that but um yeah and then there's all those aspects the water just

[00:25:23] having to go to the bathroom all the time is quite different um and the reading um almost forgot

[00:25:33] to do that a couple times but yeah it's it's a really good program to just kick your ass in the gear

[00:25:40] you know like just get a good like uh discipline in and it's not all about like you know physical

[00:25:48] health and stuff but that is kind of what kick started me to think of Rose model to think of

[00:25:56] um becoming that pitch like it made me more like creative too so I really likes the mental side

[00:26:03] of it the most so hypothetically Lacey's done with college she's done with Saapal like what are some

[00:26:11] of the I don't know Lacey you want to talk about you know being a senior and knowing that you know

[00:26:16] this could be the end you know you've been playing since your five years old I don't know Lacey

[00:26:20] don't you want to touch on that a little bit yeah I mean um I definitely started talking about it

[00:26:28] with our sports psychologist on campus um about like my biggest thing is that I worked all like so

[00:26:37] hard for the past I don't know how long I played travel while I forgot but all that travel to work

[00:26:43] until I got to college and we get four years of college and that's pretty much it and then I'm

[00:26:50] I'm very like I have a bad game and I'm like oh well I'm letting like my little self down because

[00:26:55] I only have this much left of Saapal and I work so hard to get to where I am today and um but he

[00:27:04] he definitely makes it clear that Saapal is just like a chapter in your life and not your whole

[00:27:10] your whole life um so it is sad that that chapter is like slowly coming to an end but like

[00:27:17] I have to learn to enjoy it but I'm definitely struggling struggling with like the identity part of it

[00:27:23] and what's gonna happen afterwards um like life wise job wise friendships relationships all of that

[00:27:31] stuff so um just balancing trying to think of um positive outlook for sure what's positive to it

[00:27:42] is just uh it's also a sad moment I don't know if he's guys saw like an hour ago Jason Kelsey just

[00:27:48] retired and he was crying the whole time and I was almost in tears also I was trying not to cry

[00:27:55] because I don't want to look all puppy for this interview um but I was like man like I get

[00:28:04] where he's coming from of course it's a huge difference like we're not NFL level Jason Kelsey level

[00:28:11] but I totally get like why he's so upset because it is his whole life you do that is like

[00:28:18] every single day that's what you do is your sport and it's your people and it's your routine

[00:28:24] and it's what you work so hard to do and then like you're only allowed to do it until your body

[00:28:31] or tells you that you can't or um or society okay uh Saapal doesn't have much for um for after

[00:28:41] college but there is there is some it's just not the same as NFL right so yeah um when I was you know

[00:28:51] a junior senior year of my college it was every single game every single game I cherished and I was like

[00:28:59] I'm just counting down I'm like I know how many games not counting down but like I know how many

[00:29:06] games there are left so when I was in like 14 and under I remember after a game and I don't

[00:29:13] remember much from this era of my life because I was one of the younger 14 members I remember after

[00:29:19] a game the coach said if you guys continue to play through the rest of high school you only have

[00:29:24] about probably like 100 games left and you got to play each game like it's going to be your last

[00:29:31] because you never know when you're gonna get injured and you can't play anymore or something happens

[00:29:36] and if you are lucky you'll make it to 100 and if you play in college you'll get an extra you know

[00:29:42] 150 whatever it is and there's a there's still a number to the games right so ever since he said

[00:29:49] that I've kept it in my mind and when I was a junior in college I was like I only have 120 games left

[00:29:56] if I'm lucky so every single game I was like really cherishing cherishing every single moment

[00:30:03] I was that person that was taking picture all the time and everything and my very sentimental person

[00:30:08] and I remember my senior year we had a few games get canceled due to snow and I remember being so

[00:30:14] upset because I was like it's my senior year I hope and I didn't want it I didn't want to um

[00:30:23] the games to be canceled and yeah I didn't know I was gonna cry but um yeah the um

[00:30:31] the game was being canceled due to snow I was like no I can still play like no everyone had to

[00:30:36] everyone had to go home so um yeah whatever's on your schedule you never know it's gonna be

[00:30:41] rained out or snow snowed out or anything so yeah you were lucky to play you know beyond that which

[00:30:48] not a lot of girls you know are able to do that which is you know so you had a couple more games

[00:30:53] and yeah after that so uh but I appreciate you sharing that and um you know lace hopefully that

[00:30:58] is a good nugget for you to kind of take with you yeah I mean um even Saturday it was pouring in

[00:31:05] Fullerton and we we played our first game it was nice and sunny no rain and right when the second

[00:31:14] game's about to start it starts pouring rain and I'm in relief that game so I'm like continuing

[00:31:21] to warm up and it's um my face is dripping wet with the rain and my Tetram was warming me up

[00:31:28] is like lacy you can't warm up in this I was like no no like I'm just gonna keep warming up the game

[00:31:33] supposed to start and she's like lacy I like I can't even see the ball on my feet fine and so um we

[00:31:42] stopped for a little bit and then we had a rain delay but I just I like wanted to go warm up again

[00:31:47] and I like I just knew that right when the rain started like we had to play a game like you can't

[00:31:54] you can't just like shut down and be like oh like rain rain is gonna affect me so that's um

[00:32:02] and then I ended up doing pretty well so I think keeping that mindset just like going to warm up

[00:32:08] and just keep warming up and not really think about the rain and just keep yeah yeah

[00:32:14] I couldn't I couldn't throw in rain to save my life until I was like I want to pitch in

[00:32:19] collage I was like I want to be in I will figure it out okay so in collage I figured out how

[00:32:27] to throw and I somehow got strikeouts in the rain so uh yeah I get you I get you

[00:32:34] so yeah so I wanted to bring up your uh your funny video or it wasn't funny I mean when

[00:32:43] you filled it that filled that ground ball and flipped it to your surface and for what year was

[00:32:47] that what how what you're in collage I it was either myself or in junior year but what I know oh

[00:32:57] sorry oh it must have been my junior year I think yeah so I saw I saw it on Facebook right and

[00:33:06] Amanda Scarborough had your back because there's some that were really not some nice comments I'm like

[00:33:11] that was a great play and people were still like you know making fun of you because oh she's

[00:33:15] probably not athletic or she yeah not a feeling picture and I'm like no that it's not you guys don't

[00:33:21] know the game it it was a slapper she was super fast and you just you know it was it was smart it was

[00:33:27] like how do you how do you not give you know somebody credit for something like that that was a

[00:33:31] great play but some people are just haters out there for some reason thank you yeah shout out to

[00:33:37] Amanda a little for her but um yeah I just have that like it's part of having the softball like you

[00:33:45] like is you know people ask me all the time like did you practice that I'm like no like you think

[00:33:51] that that's something that people think of like no the ball just took me that way and I just

[00:33:55] just happened like I know just if you talk to any you know I asked like there were some ones talking

[00:34:01] about they'll know oh yeah like I can see that not being practiced that's something that you just

[00:34:06] know to do you have that you know way's length with your teammate and yeah I had her

[00:34:12] my third basement for a long time and so she knows that you know going that way you know she's

[00:34:18] right there and I just looking at her I said hey tossing it to you she goes all right and she

[00:34:22] just went for it well the camera ain't it looked like you were it was like a handoff like you were

[00:34:26] a quarterback and you're off to her yeah yeah she just she just continued coming towards me and I

[00:34:32] just kind of did like a little toss yeah yeah no it was great because if you if you if you play

[00:34:37] your foot right and you pivot she saved by my alright right right that's a great play all right well

[00:34:44] we're gonna it's gonna oh good nice plan of something along the lines of that with like being a

[00:34:50] pitcher and so close to the mound like there's certain plays that are just like you know what I just

[00:34:56] got the out so it doesn't really matter how I feel that it or how it was how it was done like

[00:35:03] that I don't know if you said I think you saw this play there's of like a hard ground ball back at me

[00:35:07] yeah and I literally like just threw my glove on the ground to block the ball and then my glove

[00:35:13] fell off and I just like didn't even think about taking it back up I just went and got the ball

[00:35:18] through the glove yeah yeah and and my teammates are like you didn't mean your glove I was like what

[00:35:24] why would I need to put my glove back on and then get me out like that doesn't make shits

[00:35:29] so yeah and then if you would have picked it up if you would have picked the ball up with your glove

[00:35:33] and we would have felt that she would have been so mad at you right and you don't like people

[00:35:38] picking up the ball with the glove that is my hips just check it up with your hands right um

[00:35:47] all right so let the so and when I know you have a podcast it's um rose metal so make sure

[00:35:55] you guys check that out really cool she just started up with the new co-host right with Jamie

[00:36:00] Gilbert yes I she was gonna be my co-host yes and um something happened and she is no longer

[00:36:07] able to be my co-host anymore so I'm on mail but um I'm still planning on doing weekly episodes

[00:36:13] okay yeah that was a great episode by the way because she that what a great story yeah what a great

[00:36:18] story talk about you know identity crisis you know because she was you know even though she had a

[00:36:23] baby she's still like identified as a soft book where and you know so it's a great story you

[00:36:29] guys need to check it out um and then how could they get a hold of you I know what you said

[00:36:35] you you started doing maybe some virtual lessons like maybe for like you know hypothetically

[00:36:40] lacy was like hey you know can you check me out and then you would do like a virtual lesson with

[00:36:44] was there how's that work and then how could they get a hold of you as far as contacting you yeah

[00:36:50] first of all thank you so much um yeah rose metal is my like kind of side thing I'm more focused
